Friends
My animation is about friends, namely a giraffe and penguin, who, due to their different habitats, live far apart and can't ever hang out. The story begins with a phone call. The penguin picks up the receiver from the phone booth and the giraffe is on the other line. It is here that the great contrast between the penguin's artic home and the giraffe's safari home is illustrated. The conversation ends after the two lament that they can never hang out. The screen fades out and thus starts giraffe out on his quest to see the penguin. His misadventures take place in a series of vignettes.
In the first vignette, the giraffe is standing around the safari when he sees some hippos laid out like stepping stones in a nearby lake. He scratches his head and proceeds to step on the first hippo. However, instead of landing on the sturdy, safe back of the hippo, the giraffe falls in the lake as the hippo moves from under his feet at the last second. Fade out.
In the second vignette, the giraffe is standing around the safari as cheetahs zoom past him running around in all directions. The dim witted giraffe contemplates for a moment until a smile crosses his face. Getting himself into pouncing position, the giraffe positions himself behind an oncoming cheetah. As the cheetah zooms by, the giraffe jumps on to his back, crippling the poor animal as his legs give out beneath him. With the giraffe dazed on the ground, the cheetah crawls away using only his front paws, dragging his back legs behind him. Fade out.
In the third vignette the cheetah is standing around the safari when a lemur comes into frame and hops on a rock beside of him. The lemur picks up two needles and begins to knit a blanket. As we see a close up of this, we also see the giraffes paw sneak into the frame ever so cautiously. Then, he grabs the yarn and lassos a bird flying overhead. Failing under the weight of the giraffe, the single bird is helped as more birds come by and grab the yarn, pulling the giraffe up off the ground.
Flying through the clouds, the giraffe drops down onto the iceberg that the penguin lives on. Yet, there is no penguin to be found. The giraffe looks around the desolate landscape but see nothing but the phone booth that the penguin uses to talk to the giraffe. It rings. The giraffe picks up the receiver. On the other line is the penguin. As the camera moves back it reveals that the penguin is in the safari and we see the giraffe on the iceberg, their positions reversed. Fade out.
Notes:
Any dialogue will be animated through thought bubbles
The scanned elements will be the yarn, and then items for textures, most likely tissue paper
Format will be ultimately delivered in letterboxed DV, but will most likely be animated in HD and later downconverted later
